Maria’s Merry Mulled Wine

Entertaining this Christmas? If you want to give your guests some festive favourites while avoiding processed sugars and preservatives try Maria’s Merry Mulled Wine.

Serves 5


1 bottle organic red wine

1 organic orange

1 organic lime

3 tbsp raw cane sugar

1 organic cinnamon stick

1 organic star anise

half tsp organic ground cloves

half tsp organic ground nutmeg

half tsp organic ground ginger

First carefully take some thin slices of peel from the orange using a peeler or a sharp knife. Then juice the orange and the lime. I used the Omega Sana to cold press the juice but you can manually squeeze these if you don’t have a juicer.










Place the juice, raw cane sugar and orange peel in a saucepan on medium heat. Stir until the sugar melts into the liquid. Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise, nutmeg, clove and ginger and allow to simmer for 5 minutes.

Add 1 glass of wine and allow to simmer for a further 10 minutes.

Turn the heat right down to a low setting and add the rest of the wine. Heat gently for 5 minutes.

Remove the cinnamon sticks, star anise and orange peel.

Serve the mulled wine in heat proof glasses or mulled wine cups.
